Walmart Launches New ‘Text to Shop’ System

Walmart has introduced a new innovation that allows customers to start a shopping order by texting on their mobile phones. The world’s largest retailer stated that its new ‘Text to Shop’ platform was built by its global tech team to create a seamless shopping experience. Text to Shop is connected to a customer’s online account, so Walmart knows their usually ordered items.

The user just texts the word “reorder” for the items they want to be added to the online shopping cart. They can also put in a new request like “I need milk” to bring up a list of options with pricing. Customers can choose from the full selection of Walmart’s products, including items from their local store and from Walmart.com.

A specific time can be set for either pickup or delivery through the text system. Unveiling the shopping system, Dominique Essig, VP of conversational commerce Store No8, commented: “Between balancing your busy schedule, performing at work, managing your household, preparing meals – and ensuring you’ve got everything you need, when you need it – you’ve got a lot going on. “At Walmart, we know that keeping track of your household shopping list is often a mental task you manage as you go about your day.

That’s why Walmart is excited to offer our customers a new and convenient way to shop – by simply texting us.”
